“Be Counted in 2010”
2010 Census Information
The Urban league of Lancaster County encourages all Lancaster City and County residents to participate in the upcoming census (March/April 2010). By taking part in the 2010 Census we can help to ensure that our community has the proper representation in the U.S. House of Representatives and receives its proper share of government funding for critical community services.
Did you know that every year the federal government can allocate more than $400 billion to states and communities based, in part, on census data? Or that census data guide local decision-makers on where to build new roads, hospitals, child-care and senior centers, schools and more? Or that census data is used to determine how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives?
The census also generates hundreds of jobs locally and The Urban League is doing its part by serving as a testing site for potential census workers. The next test will be administered on February 20, 2010 between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. No appointment is necessary but all test takers must produce a social security card and birth certificate. The Urban League will also serve as a Questionnaire Assistance Center. Beginning in mid March, citizens can bring their census questionnaire to the Urban League for assistance with completion.
